With up-close involvement in the life of the collection, Barber Museum volunteers are dedicated to the enhancement of the museum’s mission. Engaging, educating, and interacting with visitors, our volunteers extend exemplary customer service and the finest Southern hospitality.
Our volunteer and docent teams are fantastic. They have fun with us, and we make them feel appreciated with benefits like race tickets and free access to museum seminars.
As a Barber Museum volunteer, you will have the opportunity to serve on several different teams. Their descriptions are below.
Event Weekend Volunteer (Weekends) Inside the museum volunteers help to monitor our collection and to greet and interact with visitors (among other duties) during major event weekends, including the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama (April 3-5), MotoAmerica (September 18-20), and the Barber Vintage Festival (October 9-11).
Floor Marshal Volunteer (Weekdays) Inside the museum volunteers help to monitor the collection by working in conjunction with the Barber Museum Security Team. This is a great opportunity to interact with museum guests!
Field Trip Volunteer (Weekdays) The museum offers educational tours and activities for third grade through high school age students. Volunteers assist with these field trips – specifically with our Build-A-Bike activity, which includes assisting students putting parts (or components) onto a motorcycle frame until you have a complete motorcycle built. Training will be provided on motorcycle assembly. Prior motorcycle knowledge is not required!
Volunteer Detail Crew (Weekdays) The detail crew’s main responsibility is to focus on the tidiness and cleanliness of our vehicles on exhibit by working in conjunction with the restoration staff.
Museum Docent Program (Weekdays and Weekends) Volunteers give tours of the museum. Volunteers are required to complete an extensive training program.
Garden Docent Program (Weekdays) Volunteers give tours of the Barber Motorsports Park and its gardens. Volunteers are required to complete an extensive training program.
