Activity Hour Options

Design a Bike/Build a Bike

In this hands-on activity, students become motorcycle designers, sketching their own concepts and bringing them to life with clay models they can take home. They’ll also work as a team to reassemble a Yamaha PW50 dirt bike, learning about its key components, how they fit together, and the mechanics to make it run. Students will also watch a demonstration on the gyroscopic effect and its role in racing, then explore the importance of safety by examining a real leather racing suit. Through creativity and teamwork, students gain a deeper understanding of design, engineering, and the science behind motorcycles.

Diagnose a Bike

In this hands-on activity, students become mechanics as they learn about the key components of a Yamaha PW50 and how they work together to make the bike run. Working in teams, they will analyze case studies to diagnose mechanical issues, then put their skills to the test by taking apart a real bike to identify a faulty part. By matching their findings to a case study, students apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to real-world motorcycle applications.
