Nicky Hayden never raced an air-cooled, four-cylinder Honda CB750F in AMA Superbike competition. But during the 2016 MotoAmerica Honda Superbike Showdown race weekend, the “Kentucky Kid” spun laps at Barber Motorsports Park on a hot-rod homage to the twin-cam model that carried fellow American Freddie Spencer to victory some 36 years earlier.
The “CB825F” that Hayden rode is part of the museum’s permanent collection. Engine and chassis scream back-in-the-day performance, with the former boasting Yoshimura pistons, valves, and camshafts, Carrillo rods, Keihin CR carburetors with open velocity stacks, a heavy-duty clutch, modified oil pan, and four-into-one Kerker exhaust.
WASCO modified the frame, re-angling the steering head to speed up steering and shorten the wheelbase. A Gold Wing fork wears cast-iron front brake discs mounted on Kosman carriers. The 18-inch wheels are magnesium, a Dymag front and an EPM rear. The front fender, gas tank, seat, sidecovers, and tail section are OEM but heavily massaged.
For his part, Hayden surprised fans in attendance with his speed on the nearly four-decade-old bike shod with treaded DOT rubber. “It’s cool to experience how bikes have changed,” admitted the 2006 MotoGP world champion, flashing his trademark smile. “Electronics are probably the things that have changed the most in the last years.”

The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is proud to announce the establishment of the “Discovery and Innovation Motorsports Fund,” a new endowment made possible through the generous contribution of the Linn-Henley Charitable Trust. This fund honors George W. Barber Jr., whose vision and passion laid the foundation for the museum and who supported its commitment to motorsports education.
The fund will provide a dedicated and sustained source of financial assistance for the museum’s education initiatives, allowing continued growth and innovation across grades 3-12 field trips, summer camps, professional development for educators, undergraduate internships, hands-on learning experiences, and workforce-inspired programming rooted in science, technology, engineering, math, and design.
“The Discovery and Innovation Motorsports Fund allows us to think long-term about education,” said Dr. Liz Johnson, education programs manager. “It will support curriculum development, hands-on learning modules, and a state-of-the-art learning facility. Most importantly, we can continue fulfilling George Barber’s vision to foster creativity, ignite curiosity, expand access, and empower the leaders of tomorrow, all through the exciting lens of motorsports.”

iRacing Studios and Original Fire Games have teamed up to create iRacing Arcade. Barber Motorsports Park is one of the iconic tracks featured in the game. Designers faithfully captured the look and nature of the Alan Wilson-designed “Alabama roller coaster.”
“I really love the way we’ve interpreted real circuits on this game,” says Original Fire Games Creative Director Alberto Mastretta, “and how they’ve become character versions of themselves, but they still have the feelings that you get when you watch races on TV.”
Any depiction of the 17-turn, 2.38-mile road course would be incomplete without founder George Barber’s large-scale sculptures—the “art in the park.” “Georgina,” the mannequin who made a surprise cameo during the 2024 Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix, appears, too.
