FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

John Surtees to be Grand Marshal of 6th Barber Vintage Festival

The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is proud to announce that motorcycle and auto racing world champion John Surtees will be the Grand Marshal for the 6th annual Barber Vintage Festival, October 8-10, 2010.

John Surtees won seven World Championships between 1956 and 1960, while riding for the MV Augusta team.  His motorcycle career also included British Championships and six Tourist Trophy victories on the Isle of Man.  After transitioning to four wheels, Surtees won a Formula One World Championship with Ferrari in 1964.  In all he won 290 of 621 races he entered.

“I really feel it is fitting to have Mr. Surtees return to the Vintage Festival.  It has been five years since his last appearance so this will be much like a homecoming,” comments Jeff Ray, Executive Director of the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum.  “John has a special place in both motorcycle and car competition and is truly a living legend.”

During the Barber Vintage Festival weekend, Surtees’ planned events include track demos with his World Championship MV Augusta and Ferrari 158.  He will also be the Guest of Honor at the 3rd Annual Motorcycles By Moonlight Dinner benefiting the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum that will be held Friday, October 8, 2010.  Guests of the dinner will have the opportunity to mingle with Surtees and be a part of a unique question and answer session with the racing legend.

“The Museum is fortunate to own both a motorcycle and car from his championship seasons and to have John driving them is priceless.  We are honored that he will be here for the 6th Barber Vintage Festival,” says Ray.
